Hestia is.... Elizabeth Taylor: Day 3: Hair, Hats and Wigs

Farking TWINS we are
It can't have been easy, being the most beautiful woman on the planet.  People expect you to look fabulous all the time.  Even when your husband has been killed in a plane crash (Mike Todd) or you are caught having a Weekend Away with your bestie's hubby (Eddie Fisher).

I don't know how long it took ET to get herself ready to face the day, but it's 11.15am and I've had to send Sonshine out for the Sunday papers and take the dog a walk because it's taking me so long to get my inner Liz fluffed up and ready for the day.

Not Elizabeth Taylor.  I know.  Hard to believe

These are from the other day.  The eye make up looks barely there, even in that top one when I got well-too-close to the screen and whited out my wrinkles.

Anyway - look at those roots. Getting them touched up on Friday.  What with all that love-making with Richard Burton, the pain-killers and the perfume launches, Liz must have had similar days (and a bad back to boot) and so we find her resplendent in wigs, turbans and hats.

I dunno whether this is hair or hat.  Sort of Princess Leia phase?

I think she looks absolutely adorable in that top image with the hairband, don't you think?

The Oscars and 'perfume phase'.

And there she is, rocking an entirely different colour, but still resplendent in emeralds.  Good on you!

Could not miss this out - is it a hat? Is it a wig? A bird? A plane?  Cleopatra - looking utterly divine.

Sputnik phase.

I'm hoping that this is fun-fur from John Lewis and that there are a couple of little pompoms dangling just out of sight.  But Liz didn't do fake anything - emotions, jewels....furs :/

Very simple.  Very chic

Sooooooo..... in memory of the lovely Liz, I am modelling a turban!

I call this my Hilda Ogden phase

Me with a sepia filter *cough*

I did make you a 17 second video to give you a laugh,
but I am damned if I can make it load up to here.

Tomorrow is Causes - mercifully no dressing up involved!!

  2. turban looks fab, but lady! your hair! your natural god-given hair is freaking AWESOME! yes, roots, and all that, but you need to immediately embrace the awesomeness of your hair, not to mention your gorgeous face. NOW!

    1. Have you all been drinking?! ROFL! I'm getting a good wodge of hair cut off on Friday too - it's quite long, but all I ever do is wear it up in a ponytail. I think the straightening thing has worn off - too damned time consuming. It's funny trying to see yourself as someone else might - all I see is Fire Hazard hair!!! :-D

    2. sheesh, womenfolk and their chronic inability to say "thank you" to a heartfelt compliment! glad you've given up the straightening. it's fine to change things up, but to fight nature every single solitary day sounds exhausting.

    3. I accept your compliment gracefully and with no further accusations of partaking of beverages :-D Yes, it wasn't doing my hair any favours, all that direct heat. It's very dry, but I'm conditioning it faithfully :-D

  3. Oh, do stop the straightening. Your curly hair (my mum has the same kind) gives such a great frame for your face. And you have the Liz "expression" perfect, BTW. You do look absolutely fabulous, for reals. :)

    1. Next Tarot reading gig in public - I'm wearing a turban and big dangly earrings and as much eyeliner as I can load on without turning into an avert for anti-vivisection :-D

  6. That second photo, you definitely have more of a Kim Novak thing going with the eyes (and I do mean in her Vertigo heyday, not her current plastic botch job)

(I may be a teensy bit biased because both Vertigo and Bell, Book and Candle are way up my list of fave films :D)
